Treat provides a simple free text format for communicating compounded medications to the pharmacy. The Note to Pharmacy section is dedicated to communicating any additional information regarding the prescription order. The steps below are a guideline as to how you may use Treat when compounding medications.
Note: Both controlled and non-controlled compounded orders can be saved for future use as a favorite and renamed.
For a Non-Controlled compounded order
- In the Medication Name, search and select a main ingredient or component of your compounded medication.
- Enter a Sig
- Enter a Dispense amount and unit
- If needed, enter the amount of refills
- If needed, enter an earliest fill date
- In the Note to pharmacy, enter the remaining compound components or ingredients for the dispense amount entered. Keep this less than 210 characters.
Below is a “Mouthwash Compounding Base” example:
Compound Ingredients:
60mL of Benadryl (diphenhydramine HCL) 12.5mg/5mL;
60mL of Viscous Lidocaine 2%;
60mL of Mylanta;
60 mL of Nystatin 100,000U/mL
Select the main ingredient: Mouthwash Compounding Base
Note: If you cannot find a compounding base, use one of the ingredients as the medication name.
In the “Notes to pharmacy”: 60mL of Benadryl (diphenhydramine HCL) 12.5mg/5mL; 60mL of Viscous Lidocaine 2%; 60mL of Mylanta; 60 mL of Nystatin 100,000U/mL
SIG: Swish and spit 15mL every 4-6 hours as needed for pain
Dispense: 240mL
Note: You can save the medication as a favorite (facility or provider) and name it “Mouthwash Compounding Base” or “Magic Mouthwash” as shown below. You will then no longer be required to duplicate the steps for ordering this medication to send electronically to the pharmacy.
For Controlled Substance compounded order
- In the Medication Name, search and select the highest scheduled medication or ingredient of your compounded medication.
- Enter a Sig
- Enter a Dispense amount and unit
- If needed, enter the amount of refills
- If needed, enter an earliest fill date
- In the Note to pharmacy, enter the remaining compound components or ingredients for the dispense amount entered.
